Tony Blair to Lead Gaza's Future: Trump's 'Greatest Board' Explained (2026)

The future of Gaza is a complex issue, and recent developments have brought it into sharp focus. Donald Trump has announced a new Board of Peace, which will oversee the future of the Gaza Strip as part of his peace plan. This board, described as the "greatest and most prestigious ever assembled," includes some high-profile names, including Sir Tony Blair.

Under the US president's peace plan, the Gaza territory will be governed by an apolitical, transitional Palestinian government, overseen by this Board of Peace. The former Labour prime minister, Sir Tony Blair, has been named as part of the body's "founding executive board."

But here's where it gets controversial... the board's members also include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jared Kushner (Trump's son-in-law), and Steve Witkoff. Other members named are Marc Rowan, Ajay Banga, and Robert Gabriel. The White House stated that each member will oversee a "defined portfolio critical to Gaza's stabilization and long-term success."

Trump, who will act as chairman of the Board of Peace, expressed great enthusiasm about its membership. He stated, "I can say with certainty that it is the Greatest and Most Prestigious Board ever assembled at any time, any place." Sir Tony Blair, along with Rubio and Kushner, is also named among the members of a Gaza Executive Board. This body is responsible for supporting "effective governance" and delivering services that will "advance peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of Gaza."

Ali Sha'ath will head a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG). The White House says he will "oversee the restoration of core public services, the rebuilding of civil institutions, and the stabilization of daily life in Gaza, while laying the foundation for long-term, self-sustaining governance." Additionally, Nickolay Mladenov has been appointed High Representative for Gaza, acting as the "on-the-ground link between the Board of Peace and the NCAG." Major General Jasper Jeffers will command an "International Stabilization Force," responsible for security operations, demilitarization, and safe delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials.

And this is the part most people miss... The situation in Gaza has been marked by conflict since October 2023, when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel. This attack resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and the taking of 251 hostages. In response, Israel launched an offensive in Gaza, which lasted for two years and resulted in the deaths of 70,000 people, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry. Although a fragile ceasefire came into effect in October, outbursts of violence continue, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violating the peace.

What do you think? Does this board offer a viable path forward for Gaza? Do you agree with the composition of the board, or do you have concerns? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
